FAQs
•What is Dasein Talks?
Dasein Talks is a community of philosophical dialogue. We organise meetings and talks where ideas become a starting point for reflection, discussion, and the exchange of views.
•Why Talks rather than Lectures?
Because philosophy does not end when the talk is over.
•Do I need a background in philosophy?
No specialised knowledge or academic background is required. All you need is a willingness to listen, learn, and take part in the dialogue.
•How do the meetings work?
Each meeting begins with a 20–30 minute presentation of a topic by one or more invited speakers, followed by 60–90 minutes of open discussion with the audience.
•How can I attend?
There are three ways to participate:
Via YouTube Live
Via Webex
In person at the venue
•Are the talks recorded?
Yes. We record the talks so that they remain accessible to a wider audience after the event.
•Can I take part in the discussion?
Of course. Dialogue is not only welcome; it is a central part of Dasein Talks. Participants can ask questions and make verbal contributions via Webex or in person at the venue. On YouTube, questions and comments can be submitted in writing through the live chat. You can also leave a comment or question before each talk, so that the speaker can take it into account in advance.
•Is there a participation fee?
Our talks are free and open to the public via YouTube. Participation through Webex and in-person attendance are available to members of the Institute of Philosophy and Ideas.
•How can I become a member? How much does it cost?
You can complete the membership registration form (link). The annual membership fee is €50.
•Do I need to reserve a place?
No reservation is required for watching via YouTube or participating through Webex. For in-person attendance, however, places are limited and must be reserved up to three days before the talk.
•Can I attend in person without being a member?
Places at the venue are limited and are reserved primarily for our members. However, since last-minute cancellations sometimes occur, you can email us to request a place, subject to availability.
•What language are the talks held in?
Scheduled talks are held in Greek. If a talk is organised in another language, this will be clearly indicated on the Dasein Talks website.
•Can I suggest a topic or a speaker?
Yes. Dasein Talks grows through the ideas of its community. If there is a topic or a person you believe should be part of the conversation, you can send us your suggestion.
•How can I support Dasein Talks?
You can become a member of the Institute, join our volunteer team, or support our work through a donation.
•Can a company or organisation collaborate with Dasein Talks?
Certainly. We are open to collaborations with companies, foundations, and organisations that share the value we place on philosophy, ideas, and public dialogue. We would be very happy to hear your proposal.
•Who organises Dasein Talks?
Dasein Talks is a core public dialogue initiative of the Institute of Philosophy and Ideas.
